WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 23, 2024 – In a major victory for federal law enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in a joint operation with the U.S. Marshals Service, has successfully captured one of the nation’s most notorious fugitives, ending a intensive, years-long manhunt.
The individual, whose name is being withheld pending formal charges and notification of family, was apprehended without incident during a raid conducted by the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) at a safe house near the U.S.-Canada border. The operation was the result of a critical tip from the public and sophisticated intelligence analysis.
The suspect had held a spot on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list, a designation reserved for individuals considered to be among the most dangerous and high-profile criminals in the United States. The fugitive was wanted in connection with a string of serious felonies, including homicide, large-scale narcotics trafficking, and organized crime activities across several states.
FBI Director Christopher Wray commended the operation in a press briefing: “Today’s capture is a testament to the relentless dedication of our agents and the strength of our partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. It sends a clear message that we will never cease in our pursuit of those who threaten the safety and security of the American people. This individual will now face the full weight of the American justice system.”
The fugitive was transported to a federal detention center and is expected to be arraigned in a U.S. District Court within the next 48 hours. The investigation remains ongoing.
The FBI has reiterated its gratitude for the public’s assistance and encourages anyone with additional information to contact their local field office or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
