Toilet Snake Bites: A Rare but Alarming Global Risk

Although uncommon, snake bites occurring in toilets have been documented across various countries. These snakes often infiltrate homes through sewage systems, roof openings, or small bathroom crevices, particularly during the rainy season in tropical areas.

In Thailand, a man was bitten on his genitals by a 12-foot python hidden inside a toilet. In South Africa, a Dutch tourist suffered serious genital trauma after encountering a Cape cobra in an outdoor restroom. In Texas, a woman was bitten by a rat snake, while in Australia, a carpet python struck a woman on the thigh. All victims survived, although some needed surgery and psychological assistance.

Snakes often access bathrooms via damaged pipes, drainage systems, or open sewer lines. Rural homes and public restrooms are especially at risk. One expert cautioned, “Snakes can climb through pipes and suddenly appear inside toilets.”
