A federal judge has intervened to prevent the deportation of the family of Boulder, Colorado, terror suspect Mohamed Soliman, as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was preparing to remove his wife and five children.
U.S. District Judge Gordon Gallagher took action on Tuesday to temporarily halt the deportation of Hayem El Gamal, the spouse of Mohamed Soliman, along with their children, as reported by CBS.
This action maintains the court’s jurisdiction over the matter while legal proceedings are ongoing.
“Furthermore, the court determines that deportation without due process could cause irreparable harm, and an order must be issued without prior notice due to the urgency of this situation,” Gallagher stated in his ruling.
The judge has set a hearing for the request for a temporary restraining order on June 13 at the federal courthouse in Denver.
Earlier that same day, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement had taken El Gamal and the children into custody.
She indicated that they were being processed for removal from the United States. Four of the children are minors, while the fifth is 18 years old.
Federal immigration records verify that El Gamal and her children are currently detained at a federal facility in Dilley, Texas.
This center is specifically designed to accommodate families with children. The family had been residing in Colorado Springs.
Mohamed Soliman, an Egyptian national, arrived in the United States with his family in August 2022.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, he applied for asylum the following month.
Soliman is now facing multiple charges of attempted murder along with a federal hate crime charge.
Authorities allege that he perpetrated an attack on Sunday that resulted in injuries to over a dozen individuals during a march supporting Israeli hostages.
Among the injured was an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor.
Law enforcement officials report that Soliman employed Molotov cocktails in the attack, which caused several individuals to sustain burn injuries.
Witnesses claimed to have heard Soliman shouting “Free Palestine” and “End Zion.”
Furthermore, the FBI reports that the suspect, Mohamed Soliman, an Egyptian national residing in the U.S. unlawfully, confessed to his intention to “kill” as many “Zionists” as he could at a demonstration aimed at freeing Israeli hostages, which he deliberately targeted.
As reported by Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany during the Monday edition of “Outnumbered,” Soliman was discovered to possess 14 Molotov cocktails along with the flamethrower he utilized to injure eight individuals, at least one of whom was critically harmed.
He informed authorities of his desire to “kill all Zionist people” and expressed a wish that “they were all dead.”
The FBI has also indicated that Soliman’s assault exhibits all the characteristics of a typical “lone wolf” attacker, which is concerning in itself.
Soliman, aged 45, is charged with employing homemade incendiary devices to ignite eight individuals during a daytime assault at Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall, where the victims had assembled to advocate for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, as noted by Fox News.
“From a behavioral and psychological profiling standpoint, this indicates impulsive extremism or a yearning for martyrdom rather than a focus on escape or survival,” stated Jason Pack, a retired FBI supervisory special agent, to the outlet.
“These characteristics [are] frequently linked to ideologically motivated lone actors. This type of assailant generally functions without a support network but may be swayed by online propaganda or perceived injustices,” Pack remarked.
“The erratic conduct, rudimentary weaponry, and politically charged rhetoric indicate a disorganized, emotionally unstable individual whose radicalization, if validated, could align the case with the increasing trend of unpredictable, lone-wolf-style domestic assaults,” he further added.
An arrest affidavit outlining Soliman’s discussion with local law enforcement after his apprehension implies a deficiency in sophistication regarding his actions.
