Reba McEntire is well-acquainted with the anguish of grief and bereavement. The country music icon tragically lost her life in an airplane accident in 1991 while on tour, along with seven other band members and her tour manager.
On March 16, 1991, a private event in San Diego showcased a performance by the renowned artist and her band. At Brown Field Municipal Airport, two planes were set to transport the band members to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the upcoming scheduled performance.
The band members and the tour manager departed, leaving McEntire, her then-manager Narvel Blackstock, and her stylist Sandi Spika in San Diego for the night.
In a somber 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, McEntire recounted the events that followed. Merely ten miles east of the airport, the first jet that took off crashed, while the second jet ascended safely and reached its intended destination.
