New York Attorney General Letitia James, recognized for her legal pursuits against Donald Trump, is currently the subject of a criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, overseen by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
A grand jury is investigating claims that James engaged in mortgage fraud by misrepresenting properties in order to secure more favorable loan terms.
The situation arises from a referral made by William Pulte, a former official in the Trump administration, who alleges that James has inaccurately asserted a Virginia residence as her primary home and has misrepresented the number of units in a property located in Brooklyn. James refutes these allegations, describing them as politically motivated retribution orchestrated by allies of Trump.
Her lawyer contends that the investigation is an act of retribution and points out the irony, mentioning that James previously accused Trump of comparable behavior. James’ office asserts that she continues to prioritize the needs of New Yorkers and will not be cowed.
