Louis Prevost, the older brother of newly elected Pope Leo XIV, is standing by a controversial social media post in which he referred to California Rep. Nancy Pelosi as a “drunk c—,” saying in a Monday interview, “I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it.”
Prevost, 73, didn’t back down during his appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where he discussed a range of topics, including his support for Donald Trump and what he imagines Trump’s first meeting with the new pope might be like.
The interview came amid renewed attention on Prevost’s past Facebook activity—some of it harshly critical of liberal politicians—surfacing just days after his brother, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was announced as the successor to Pope Francis.
One of the most widely discussed posts was a video from 1996 that Louis Prevost shared, which showed Rep. Pelosi speaking about tariffs. The video included derogatory commentary, including the use of the c-word.
Asked about it, Prevost said, “Well, I posted it, and I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t kind of believe it.”
He went on to express mild regret—not for the content, but for the timing.
“I had no idea this [papal appointment] was coming this soon,” he said. “And I can tell you, since then, I’ve been very quiet—biting my tongue at some of the stuff that’s out there on social media, because I don’t want to create waves. I’m a MAGA type, and I have my beliefs, but I don’t need to create heat for [Leo]. He’s going to have enough on his plate.”
Though Prevost acknowledged that his brother is not as conservative as he is, he rejected the idea that Pope Leo XIV would steer the Catholic Church in a progressive direction.
“I don’t know that I’d go so far as to say he’s woke,” Prevost said. “I don’t think he’s going to pull the Church hard left. I think he’s going to stay down the middle.”
He also stated that he believes the pope will not endorse same-sex marriage or allow women to be ordained as priests.
