Nine Myrtle Beach Teens Charged After Death of 16-Year-Old Trey Dean Wright

Authorities in Florence County, South Carolina, have charged nine teenagers in connection with the June 24, 2025, death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright. Investigators say the group acted together during a confrontation near Johnsonville, and under state law, they can be charged as accomplices even if they did not fire a weapon.

The incident began when Wright and 19-year-old Devan Raper of Conway got into a fight late that night. Raper was arrested the next day and remains in custody on murder and weapons charges. Several others, including Wright’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher, were later charged for their alleged roles in bringing him to the scene. Some suspects have been released on bond, while others remain in custody.

Sheriff TJ Joye said the dispute stemmed from personal issues and was captured on video. He described the case as a tragic example of how quickly arguments can escalate, leaving one teen dead and others facing life-changing consequences. Authorities have indicated that additional suspects, including juveniles, may still face charges.

Wright’s family and friends remember him as a kind and active young man who played football and baseball at Johnsonville High School. A GoFundMe campaign raised funds to help his loved ones with expenses, while his obituary described him as someone who loved the outdoors and made those around him laugh. A celebration of life was held in his honor on July 3.
