At 9 AM Central on May 22nd, emergency services are actively engaged in searching through the wreckage following a plane crash that occurred in a San Diego neighborhood earlier today.
The area was consumed by flames at approximately 4 AM on Thursday, May 22. Reports suggest that around 15 residences sustained damage, in addition to vehicles that were parked in driveways and along the street.
Residents have been evacuated, and authorities are urging individuals to avoid the area.
Two schools and one roadway have been closed as the fire department and local officials work to address the aftermath of the incident.
Fire Chief Dan Eddy addressed the media at a news conference this morning, stating, “We have jet fuel all over the place. Our primary objective is to search all these homes and ensure everyone is evacuated immediately.”
He characterized the scene as “a massive debris field.”
What information do we have regarding the aircraft?
According to the fire chief this morning, visibility was severely limited due to foggy conditions and
“You could hardly see in front of you.”
The Federal Aviation Administration has verified that the aircraft involved was a Cessna 550, a small private plane designed to accommodate 6 to 8 passengers. The FAA also indicated that “the number of individuals on board remains unknown.”
Local officials have yet to verify the total number of injuries or fatalities. Nevertheless, video evidence depicts the aircraft in a state of destruction. The incident took place in proximity to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.
